Carin Roberts-Wollmann, Ph.D., PE, is a Professor in the Via Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Virginia Tech. She received her BS from the University of Nebraska and her MS and PhD from the University of Texas at Austin. In addition, she has 10 years of industry experience in bridge design and construction. She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in reinforced and prestressed concrete.
Her research interests include enhancing the constructability and durability of bridges through the implementation of innovative materials and construction techniques. She has performed research in areas such as FRP reinforcement for concrete bridge decks, full-depth precast panels for rapid bridge deck construction, post-tensioned anchorage zones in normal and lightweight concrete, Grade 300 prestressing strand for bridge girders, and Ultra High Performance Concrete for bridge applications. She has advised to completion 12 PhDs and 63 MS students.
She is the chair of American Concrete Institute Committee 423 – Prestressed Concrete, and is a voting member of ACI Committee 318 – Building Code and Committee 239 – Ultra-High Performance Concrete. She is also past chair of TRB Committee AFF30 – Concrete Bridges and she has served PCI on the Journal Advisory and Bridge Technical Committees.
Dr. Michael Pollino is an Associate Professor in the Dept. of Civil Engineering at Case Western Reserve University located in Cleveland, OH. He teaches courses in civil engineering materials, structural mechanics, analysis, and design. His research focuses on structural design for enhanced resiliency and sustainability under extreme and operational dynamic loading using advanced computational tools and experimental testing techniques. He is currently involved in field monitoring of on-shore wind turbines to evaluate dynamic behavior and fatigue assessment of turbine support structures and has performed in-situ measurements for serviceability vibration issues in buildings along with damage assessment of large pre-stressed concrete pipelines.
